About this position

PhD Fellow in Pharmaceutics at UiT The Arctic University of Norway

The Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, UiT (Tromsø, Norway) is advertising a PhD position in pharmaceutics within the Drug Transport and Delivery research group. The project focuses on multifunctional wound dressings for improved healing of hard-to-heal and burn wounds.

The research topic combines pharmaceutics, nanomedicine, biopolymer chemistry, biomaterials, and topical drug delivery. The planned work includes electrospinning nanofibrous wound dressings from sustainable bioactive polymers, using marine and agricultural active substances, and optimizing formulation, processing, and scale-up with sustainability in mind. Performance will be evaluated through morphological, mechanical, biological, antibacterial, and biofilm testing, in collaboration with industrial and academic partners.

This is a four-year PhD Fellow appointment. The nominal PhD programme is three years, with the fourth year distributed as teaching and other duties. The position is based at UiT in Tromsø.

Eligibility highlights include a master’s degree or equivalent in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences, documented English fluency, and relevant experimental laboratory skills in drug formulation and nanomedicine. Helpful experience includes a thesis in pharmaceutics/biopharmaceutics, hands-on work with nanofibers or liposomes, characterization of nanoformulations, and interest in topical skin treatments and biopolymer chemistry. Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage because of teaching duties.

Applicants must also qualify for admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Health Sciences, which normally requires a bachelor’s degree plus a master’s degree (or integrated master’s), a qualifying thesis scope, and grades of C or better. Foreign degrees may be assessed against Norwegian higher education standards.

Funding details
