The position is part of a five-year research programme (2026–2030) funded by TKI Deltatechnologie, Nationale-Nederlanden, and more than 10 partners from academia, the financial sector, engineering consultancies, and government. You will work closely with other PhD candidates and supervisors at the University of Amsterdam, and contribute to teaching (about 20% of your time), conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree (or completion before September 2026) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Actuarial Science, or a related field; strong Python programming; familiarity with PyTorch/TensorFlow is an advantage; interest in probabilistic modelling and spatial data analysis; English fluency required; Dutch is an asset.

Funding: salaried PhD employment for 4 years, with a gross monthly salary from €3,204 to €4,051 plus holiday allowance and year-end bonus.
