About this position

PhD position in Angular Momentum of Magnons at CEA-IRIG / SPINTEC in Grenoble, France.

The project sits at the intersection of physics, solid state physics, quantum mechanics, magnonics, and spin-wave spectroscopy. The successful candidate will work on a home-built NV-center microscope optimized for spin-wave spectroscopy to study hidden azimuthal modes and orbital angular momentum in magnons. The long-term goal is to develop an orbital-angular-momentum transducer between photons, magnons, and phonons using a micron-sized magnetic garnet crystal.

This is a PhD opening with a temporary full-time contract. Funding is provided through Horizon Europe – COFUND, and the gross salary is 2400€/month before tax.

Eligibility and requirements include a Master 2 (or equivalent) in Solid State Physics, Quantum Physics, or Applied Physics. Strong hands-on instrumentation skills are highly valued, especially the ability to design, build, and troubleshoot experimental setups. Helpful experience includes microwave engineering, confocal microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Python programming, and hardware platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or FPGA. Applicants must satisfy the EU MSCA mobility criterion (not more than 12 months in France during the last three years, excluding holidays). Excellent English is required.

English proficiency at an excellent level is required.
