About this position

Malmö University in Sweden is recruiting a doctoral student in biomedical science with a focus on advanced lung models and biopharmaceutics in inhalation therapy. The position is based at the Department of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Health and Society, and is connected to the BioInhale project and the Biofilms Research Center for Biointerfaces (BRCB).

The project studies how drug molecules, from small molecules to macromolecules, interact with the lung epithelium during aerosolization, deposition, dissolution, permeation, and clearance. The doctoral student will work at the interface of pharmaceutical sciences, cell biology, tissue engineering, and inhalation therapy, developing and characterizing advanced 3D cell and tissue models, performing cell-based and biochemical/molecular analyses, and evaluating peptide/protein drugs and inhalation formulations. The work also includes preclinical ex vivo and in vivo models.

Eligibility requires a relevant second-cycle degree or equivalent, plus at least 90 higher education credits in biomedical science or a related subject, including 30 credits at second-cycle level. Strong English skills are required. Experience with cell culture, primary cells, 3D models, tissue engineering, histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, ELISA, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, and data analysis is considered a merit.

The position is full-time for four years and is salaried according to Malmö University’s doctoral student agreement. The project has funding from the Knowledge Foundation.
