About this position
PhD position at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Umeå, in characterization of boreal soil proteins and their role in soil nitrogen turnover.
The project sits at the intersection of soil science, biology, environmental science, and chemistry, with strong links to proteomics, protein chemistry, LC-MS/MS, and bioinformatic data analysis. The doctoral candidate will work mainly in the laboratory, analysing natural soils from mesocosm and field experiments, and will collaborate closely with the Umeå Proteomics Platform.
The project is led by Sandra Jämtgård at the Department of Forest Ecology and Management, in collaboration with Maja Sundquist and Jonatan Klaminder. The research team spans plant ecophysiology, vegetation ecology, soil science, and proteomics, offering a multidisciplinary environment for scientific exchange.
Eligibility: a Master’s degree or equivalent, at least 240 credits with 60 at second-cycle level, and at least 90 HEC in biology-related subjects (30 at second-cycle level). Applicants must also meet English B/6 equivalent, have documented laboratory experience, univariate and multivariate analysis experience, and strong cooperation, problem-solving, analytical, and independent working skills.
