About this position

PhD opportunity in Chemistry at Nantes Université (CEISAM UMR-CNRS 6230, NanoBioMat team) on magnetically activatable nanoassemblies for targeted immunomodulation of autoimmune hepatitis.

The project, within the ANR-funded MAGNETIMA consortium, focuses on designing multifunctional magnetic nanoassemblies combining iron oxide nanoparticles, an anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive drug, and an antigenic peptide to promote antigen-specific immune tolerance. Research topics include physical chemistry, colloidal systems, nanomedicine, nanoparticle formulation, magnetic drug release, magnetic particle imaging (MPI), biodistribution, and preclinical immunology.

The PhD will involve flash nanoprecipitation, physicochemical characterization, magnetic measurements, controlled release studies under alternating magnetic fields, and imaging/biological evaluation with consortium partners. Experimental work will be carried out mainly in Nantes, with research visits and campaigns in Caen and collaborations in Rennes and Paris.

Eligibility: Master’s degree or engineering degree in chemistry, physical chemistry, materials science, nanoscience, chemical biology, formulation science, or a closely related field. Strong background in physical chemistry and interest in interdisciplinary research are expected; experience with nanoparticles, polymers, HPLC, cell culture, magnetism, biomedical imaging, or quantitative analysis is a plus. Good scientific English and availability for consortium work are required.

Funding: temporary full-time PhD position; no stipend amount is stated in the post. Deadline: 22 September 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Paris).
