About this position

Ghent University is recruiting for 15 PhD positions within the European MSCA Doctoral Network RESCUE, focused on groundwater remediation, pore-scale imaging, geophysics, and related environmental research. The projects sit at the interface of environmental science, physics, civil engineering, and data-driven modelling, with collaboration across academic and industry partners in Belgium, France, Austria, Denmark, the UK, and beyond.

Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary international network and benefit from research training, secondments, workshops, conferences, and transferable skills development. The positions are funded by the European Commission under MSCA regulations and offer a 36-month contract with an attractive salary; additional funding may be available depending on the host institution.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent by the recruitment date and must not already have a doctoral degree. The call is open to candidates of any nationality, subject to the MSCA mobility rule. A minimum B2 English level is required. Relevant backgrounds include geophysics, geology, geosciences, environmental sciences, physics, chemistry, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, computer science, data science, economics, or related fields. Helpful experience includes scientific programming (Python, R, MATLAB), quantitative analysis, modelling, laboratory work, and field investigations.

The application deadline is 12 July 2026 at 23:59 CET. Applicants must complete the online application form and upload the requested documents, including language certificate, transcripts, and CV. E-mail applications will not be considered. For project-specific questions, candidates should contact the listed supervisor(s).
