About this position
KU Leuven’s Laboratory for Translational Immunology and Immunotherapy (LTII) is offering a fully funded PhD position in a translational project on immunotherapy for ovarian cancer.
The project, led by Prof. Dr. An Coosemans, sits at the interface of immunology, clinical research, and innovation science. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, impact-driven environment within KU Leuven and work on a project that aims to develop novel immunotherapeutic strategies by targeting innate immunosuppression through drug repurposing. A key goal is to translate preclinical findings toward a phase II clinical trial.
Research activities will primarily involve preclinical in vivo mouse experiments, immune read-outs, and data integration for clinical translation. The position offers training in tumor immunology, preclinical models, and translational oncology, with close collaboration with clinicians and pharmacologists. The lab emphasizes real-world healthcare impact, interdisciplinary teamwork, and opportunities for international collaboration and conference participation.
Applicants should hold a master’s degree in biomedical sciences, medicine, biotechnology, bioengineering, or a related field, and have a strong background in cancer biology and immunology. A FELASA B certificate is required for animal experiments, together with practical experience in mouse models, cell culture, flow cytometry, and immunological assays. Strong analytical, statistical, and organizational skills are expected, as well as the ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team. Fluent English is required.
The position is a fully funded 4-year PhD opportunity after positive evaluations. Applications must be submitted through KU Leuven’s online application tool by 2026-08-05 23:59 (Europe/Brussels). Candidates should include a CV, motivation letter, academic transcripts, and at least two referees.
For more information, contact Ann Vankerckhoven or Yani Berckmans at KU Leuven. KU Leuven also highlights its inclusive and socially safe working environment and welcomes diverse applicants.
