About this position
PhD opportunity at Wageningen University & Research in Leveraging Adolescent Agency to Improve Food Environments at School.
This PhD project sits at the intersection of development economics, behavioural economics, public health nutrition, and adolescent nutrition. The research examines how adolescent agency can be leveraged in school-based nutrition interventions in Indonesia, with a focus on food preferences, dietary intake, and purchasing behaviour. The project includes field experiments, co-creation sessions, focus group discussions, behavioural experiments, and a large-scale randomized controlled trial in secondary schools.
The position is based at the Development Economics Group at Wageningen University & Research. During fieldwork, the PhD candidate will spend substantial time in and around Solo, Central Java, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Sebelas Maret, and will also spend time at Erasmus University Rotterdam to work with the wider research team.
Supervision is provided by Robert Sparrow (Associate Professor, WUR), Matthias Rieger (Professor, Erasmus University Rotterdam), and Tri Mulyaningsih (Professor, Universitas Sebelas Maret).
Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in economics, development economics, behavioural economics, health economics, or a related field; strong econometric skills; preferably experience with experimental or impact-evaluation methods; and preferably prior original data collection, field research, or behavioural experiments in a low- or middle-income country. Strong collaboration and communication skills are important, and Bahasa Indonesia is strongly desired. English proficiency at C1 level is expected.

What's required
