About this position

PhD opportunity in MCTR3 signalling in synovial inflammation and tissue repair at Queen Mary University of London (William Harvey Research Institute), supervised by Dr J Dalli.

This project investigates how MCTR3 (maresin conjugates in tissue regeneration) activates its receptor and reprogrammes synovial macrophages and fibroblasts in rheumatoid arthritis. The work connects receptor signalling to cellular metabolism, efferocytosis, phosphoproteomic pathways, tissue-specific responses, and repair mechanisms in experimental and human arthritis.

Research training includes GPCR pharmacology, second-messenger analysis, mammalian cell culture, phosphoproteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, macrophage and fibroblast functional assays, transcriptomics, immunology, and human tissue analysis.

Applicants should have a background in pharmacology, biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology, or cell signalling, plus experience in mammalian cell culture and quantitative laboratory methods. A strong interest in receptor pharmacology is essential. Candidates must hold, or expect to obtain by October 2026, a Master’s degree or equivalent that allows doctoral enrolment at QMUL. The call is open to candidates of any nationality, but MSCA mobility rules apply: applicants must not have lived or carried out their main activity in the UK for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment.

Applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree, must be proficient in English, and must satisfy the MSCA mobility rule by not having resided or carried out their principal activity in the United Kingdom for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately preceding recruitment.
