About this position
Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), through the Brussels Photonics (B-PHOT) research group in the Faculty of Engineering, is recruiting a PhD student for research on end-to-end incoherent holographic imaging.
The project sits at the intersection of photonics, optics, holography, and computational imaging. You will investigate models for incoherent light propagation, develop joint optimisation methods for optics and computational reconstruction, and contribute to the prototyping of camera optics and hardware for high-quality hologram capture under natural lighting conditions. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the ETRO research group at VUB and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan.
This is a full-time doctoral fellow position with a doctoral grant. The post is designed for a candidate who wants to complete a PhD within four years and who is motivated to publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at international conferences, and build an international network in optics and computational imaging.
In addition to research, the role includes limited teaching support (exercise/practical supervision) and some departmental service and outreach activities. The home base is the Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene), Belgium.
Applicants should be scientifically motivated, collaborative, communicative, and comfortable working both independently and in a team. Apply through the VUB jobs portal using the provided link.
