About this position

PhD position at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Department of Process & Energy / Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The project, CO2URAGE, is funded by the Dutch research organisation NWO and focuses on energy storage, CO2 conversion, hydrogenation, sorption-enhanced catalysis, and reactor engineering. The research aims to convert intermittent renewable electricity into platform chemicals and fuels using captured CO2 and hydrogen from electrolysis, with an emphasis on scalable, dynamic reactor operation and proof-of-concept validation.

You will carry out experimental work using TU Delft’s laboratory facilities, including advanced in-situ measurement techniques such as radar technology, and work on reactor engineering modelling for conversion and sorbent regeneration. The project also involves collaboration with a postdoc, another PhD student working on CFD modelling, and researchers from TU Delft, TNO, and industry partners.

Eligibility: MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field; experience with measurements and engineering reactor modelling and/or CFD; strong communication skills; fluent English; willingness to learn Dutch; ability to work independently and in a team.

Funding: Four-year paid PhD employment with salary from €3204 to €4051 gross per month, plus holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus.

Application: Apply online by 30 September 2026. Submit a CV and motivational letter. Applications by email or post will not be processed.
