About this position

Postdoctoral position at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, within the Heat Transformation Technology Section of the Process & Energy department.

The project focuses on molecular dynamics and process-scale simulation of high-temperature thermal energy storage systems, with a particular emphasis on molten salts for industrial decarbonization and electrification of heat. The work is part of the HyCarb project, which aims to support the sustainable production of carbon-based chemicals through electrified industrial heat.

You will link molecular-level understanding to engineering-scale performance and collaborate with academic, industrial, and research partners across the Netherlands. The role is suited to candidates interested in multiscale modelling, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and simulation-driven energy technologies.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, or a related field; experience with molecular simulation and/or process modelling; strong understanding of thermodynamics and transport phenomena; excellent English communication skills.

Funding and conditions: 2-year temporary postdoc appointment, 36–40 hours per week, salary range €4728–€6433, with standard Dutch university employment benefits.

Application deadline: 22 September 2026. Apply online with a CV and motivational letter via the TU Delft application button.
