About this position
TU Delft is advertising a Postdoc position in solvothermal recycling of cardiac catheters within the newly funded EvalueWaste project. The work sits at the intersection of chemical engineering, biomaterial engineering, materials recovery, and circular economy, with a strong experimental and process-design component.
The project addresses the recycling of single-use cardiac electro-surgical catheters, which contain complex composite materials, polymers, and precious metals that are typically incinerated after use. The successful candidate will help scale up a solvothermal process to recover metals and polymers for reuse, contribute to scientific publications and project reports, and participate in consortium meetings, workshops, and stakeholder events.
This position is hosted at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, in the Netherlands. The role is full-time or near full-time (36–40 hours per week) and is temporary for 1 year, with salary and benefits according to the Dutch Universities collective agreement. The post is externally financed and part of a multidisciplinary consortium involving industry and academia.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; experience in experimental study of mechanical processing; hands-on practical engineering and process design; strong teamwork and independent working ability; good English communication skills; and a critical, research-driven mindset.
How to apply: submit your application online via the application button by 1 October 2026. Upload a CV and motivational letter. If selected for interview, you will later be asked for contact details of at least two referees.
