This project examines how finance, economic growth, and sustainable development intersect, with a strong focus on green finance, environmental sustainability, fiscal and monetary policy, climate risk, financial stability, gender-diverse financial leadership, corporate financial strategy, and alternative measures of welfare beyond GDP. The research is interdisciplinary and connects economics, finance, management, and international business.

The project is designed for applicants interested in how financial systems and policy frameworks can support inclusive development, resilience to crises, and climate-conscious economic systems, especially in emerging and developing economies. The successful candidate is expected to develop their own research project within this theme.

Eligibility: at least a 2:1 honours degree or equivalent; a relevant master’s degree is typically required; IELTS 7.0 overall with no component below 7.0.

Funding: self-funded. Fees for 2026-27 are £5,238 per year for UK students and £23,100 per year for international students.

Deadline: 31 July 2026. Start date: 1 October 2026. Duration: 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time.
