About this position

PhD opportunity at the University of Lorraine in aquaculture, environmental science, and agricultural sciences, focused on the territorial management of ponds to improve the economic and environmental performance of fish farming under climate change.

The project is hosted by the L2A Animal and Agroecosystems Laboratory and the SIReNA doctoral school at the University of Lorraine. It is part of the CEDRE project and combines participatory co-design, bioeconomic modeling, hydrological modeling, ecological modeling, and multi-criteria assessment to develop innovative management scenarios for pond networks.

The doctoral researcher will study water, nutrient, and biodiversity flows across pond systems and evaluate trade-offs under environmental and economic constraints. The work is interdisciplinary and includes extended research stays with partner institutions such as ISARA, UMR SAS in Rennes, and AQUABIOS-ISEM, plus interaction with fish farmers and stakeholder workshops.

Candidate profile: a motivated applicant with a Master's degree in aquatic ecology, aquaculture, environmental science, agronomy, or a related field. Helpful skills include mechanistic modeling, statistics, GIS, and/or socio-technical systems analysis. Interest in interdisciplinary research, participatory methods, and collaborative work is strongly valued.

Funding: ANR-funded doctoral contract.

Deadline: 31 August 2026. Start date: 1 November 2026.
