About this position

PHELIQS (Laboratory of Photonics, Electronics, and Quantum Engineering) at Grenoble INP – Institute of Engineering / Université Grenoble Alpes is offering a PhD position on three-dimensional gate architectures for scalable germanium spin qubits. The project sits at the intersection of quantum engineering, semiconductor nanodevices, and low-temperature experimental physics.

The research goal is the development of germanium quantum bits using innovative nanofabrication techniques. The doctoral researcher will design and fabricate germanium spin-qubit devices based on a vertical 3D grid architecture, develop and optimize advanced nanofabrication processes such as etching and atomic-layer deposition, and experimentally characterize devices at very low temperatures in a dilution refrigerator. The work also includes evaluating qubit performance, including coherence, charge noise, and qubit control, as well as studying interactions between qubits and comparing the new 3D architecture with conventional planar architectures.

PHELIQS is a joint research unit of the CEA and Université Grenoble Alpes and is organized into five teams. The laboratory includes around 60 permanent staff members and hosts approximately 35 PhD students and 15 postdoctoral researchers. Its research focuses on nanophysics and condensed matter physics, with applications toward photonics, nanoelectronics, and quantum information processing.

A strong interest in quantum technologies, semiconductor devices, and low-temperature experiments is expected, along with scientific rigor, independence, curiosity, teamwork skills, and an excellent level of English sufficient for scientific communication and writing publications.
