About this position

RIKEN is recruiting one Special Research Fellow at the Quantum Computing Research Center, Institute for Levitation Electron Quantum Information Research, Hakubi Research Team in Saitama, Japan.

The project focuses on quantum information science, quantum computing, and low-temperature physics, with particular emphasis on applying electrons suspended on the surface of liquid helium or solid neon to quantum information processing. The lab is also involved in international collaborative research under the ASPIRE program, including partners at the University of Notre Dame, Florida State University, and the University of Augsburg.

Research keywords include qubit, 2D electron system, helium, neon, condensed matter physics, semiconductors, atomic physics, magnetism, superconductivity, and nanostructure physics.

This is a postdoctoral-equivalent fixed-term research position. The post states an annual income of 4 million yen or more, with an annual salary system, discretionary work allowance, commuting allowance, housing allowance, and social insurance. Telecommuting is available, and the institute notes support for gender equality, diversity, and childcare facilities.

Eligibility requires a doctoral degree in a field related to quantum technology, or expected completion by the hiring date. In principle, applicants should have earned their doctorate within the last five years.

The application deadline is 2026-12-18, though the institute may close applications earlier once a suitable candidate is found. Apply via the RIKEN recruitment page using the electronic application materials listed in the posting.
