About this position
PhD opportunity at Cardiff University in immune ageing, T-cells, protective immunity, vaccine design, and T-cell therapies.
This funded project asks why T-cell responses to infection become less effective with age and how that knowledge can inform future vaccines and immunotherapies. The work is based at Cardiff University, Cardiff School of Medicine, and will involve engineered protein technology, advanced imaging platforms (including a FACSDiscover S8 with CellViewTM), transcriptomics, telomere length assays, and bioinformatics.
Supervisory team: Dr Kristin Ladell, Prof L Wooldridge, Prof D Baird, and Prof D Price.
Eligibility: applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a first or upper second-class UK honours degree or an equivalent qualification. English language requirement is IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each subskill, or an acceptable alternative.
Funding: UK tuition fees plus a Doctoral Stipend matching the UK Research Council National Minimum (£21,805 p.a. for 2026/27, updated annually). Additional research training and support funding of up to £5,000 per year is also available.
