The Messer Lab at the University of Kentucky is recruiting three PhD/MS students and a postdoctoral researcher to join a dynamic team investigating the fate and transport of emerging contaminants—including PFAS, microplastics, pesticides, and antibiotics—in agroecosystems. The research focuses on the use of wetlands and riparian buffers for contaminant treatment, with projects spanning field and laboratory work. The team employs innovative water quality monitoring and analytical methods to trace and treat contaminants and nutrients in human-impacted ecosystems.
Graduate and postdoctoral positions are fully funded through support from the USGS, NSF, and the Gatton Foundation. Applicants should have a background in agricultural, biological, civil, chemical, biogeochemistry, natural resources, or environmental engineering from an ABET accredited institution. Experience in both field and laboratory settings, programming skills (Matlab, R Studio, SAS), chemistry lab experience, strong technical writing, and enthusiasm for research are required.
