About this position

CIC energiGUNE invites applications for a PhD position focused on nanoconfined fluids for next-generation energy and functional technologies. The research will be conducted within the Thermal Energy Storage and Conversion Area, specifically in the Interfacial Phenomena, Colloids, and Porous Media group. The successful candidate will carry out high-quality, original research on the behavior and applications of fluids confined in nanoporous materials, contributing to the development of emerging energy technologies.

Main responsibilities include designing and performing advanced experiments, analyzing experimental data, and contributing to theoretical interpretations. The candidate will be expected to publish findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences and workshops. Collaborative research activities within the group and with external partners are integral to the role.

CIC energiGUNE is a leading European research center in energy and sustainability, offering access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and characterization platforms. The center provides a vibrant, multidisciplinary, and international environment, with opportunities for professional and personal development, including seminars, conferences, and training sessions. Flexible working hours, telework options, and a comprehensive welcome program (including assistance with accommodation, administrative procedures, and free language courses) are available to support work-life balance and integration into the local community.

The position offers a 3-year predoctoral contract with the possibility of renewal, contingent on performance and funding. Once selected, the candidate will apply jointly with the center for a predoctoral grant from the Basque Government. CIC energiGUNE is committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, welcoming applicants regardless of gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or age.

Applicants must hold an MSc degree (completed by September 2026) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physical Chemistry, Physics, Nanoscience, Chemical Physics, or Nanotechnology. A strong academic background, hands-on experimental research experience, analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent English proficiency are required. Motivation to conduct high-level research and publish in leading scientific journals is essential.

To apply, submit a detailed CV and academic records from your bachelor degree via the CIC energiGUNE employment portal. The selection process concludes once a candidate is selected. For further information, visit the job details website or contact [email protected].
