About this position
Research Associate / PhD opportunity in AI-based design of engine architecture at Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany), within the Department of Engineering and the DaHKIZ project (Data-based Holistic AI-supported Civil Engine Development) in cooperation with Rolls-Royce Dtl.
The position focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), semantic data modelling, and engine architecture / preliminary engine design. The work includes AI-supported component selection, automated evaluation of engine concepts, ontology-based metadata models, multi-agent architectures, and validation of AI methods in GTlab and related design workflows.
This is a research associate role with the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. The post is paid at E 13 TV-L, full-time (40 hours/week), and is initially limited until 30 April 2029. Scientific publication and conference presentation are part of the role.
Eligibility highlights: completed Master's degree or university diploma in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline; strong knowledge of machine learning; experience with engine/system design or semantic data modelling; confident Python skills; very good English (C1). Helpful extras include PyTorch/TensorFlow, LLMs, RAG, multi-agent systems, GTlab, software plug-ins, and ontologies. Good German (B2) is desirable, and support is offered for international applicants.
