About this position

Radboud University is offering a PhD position at the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH) within the Faculty of Arts in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

This doctoral project is situated in a research environment focused on the present and the past through the lenses of culture, history, literature, and art. The position invites research on understandings of an interconnected world, including themes such as Europe’s difficult heritage, contested pasts, inequalities, and sustainability. Your dissertation should align with one of RICH’s research groups, and you will be based in the Graduate School for the Humanities.

The appointment is a paid PhD employment contract at 0.8-1.0 FTE. The role allocates 75% of time to research and dissertation writing, and 25% to training and academic service to the Faculty of Arts, including teaching. The contract begins with a 1.5-year period and may be extended after evaluation to a total of 4 years at full-time equivalent or 5 years at 0.8 FTE.

Funding includes a gross monthly salary of €3,059 rising to €3,881 from the fourth year onward, plus an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus. Applicants should have a Master’s degree in a discipline related to RICH, or be on track to complete it by 15 September 2026.
