About this position
Public call for applications for Trainee Predoctoral Research Staff (PIPF) contracts as part of the project BIOPOLE_PIPF26003 at Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Spain.
This is a PhD opening in Chemistry, with a strong interdisciplinary focus spanning catalysis, polymer chemistry, nanoscience, photochemistry, photocatalysis, artificial photosynthesis, and solar fuels. The project aims to develop bioinspired catalytic polymersomes and hybrid compartmentalized systems for CO₂ valorisation and solar fuel/chemical production within the ERC Starting Grant project ERC-StG-BIOPOLE.
The selected PhD candidate will synthesize molecular catalysts, assemble functional polymersomes using microfluidics, characterize the systems with advanced spectroscopy and microscopy methods, and study photocatalytic activity, charge dynamics, and electron transfer kinetics at soft interfaces. The role also includes preparing reports, presenting in group meetings, drafting manuscripts, attending conferences, and mentoring students when appropriate.
Eligibility highlights: Chemistry degree and MSc in Chemistry, Nanoscience, or a related field; experience in organic/inorganic synthesis, coordination chemistry, molecular catalysis, photochemistry, photocatalysis, or polymersome chemistry is valued. Familiarity with NMR, IR, UV-vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, electrochemistry, microscopy, Schlenk techniques, and inert atmosphere handling is an advantage. Good English is required.
Funding: full-time temporary funded research contract under the PIPF scheme; no stipend amount is listed.
Deadline: 10 September 2026, 23:59 (Europe/Madrid).
How to apply: submit the application via the Universitat Rovira i Virgili electronic office link or the Euraxess posting. Check the official application page for the required documents and submission steps.
