About this position

PhD position in Developmental Neurobiology at the Instituto de Biomedicina de Valencia (IBV-CSIC) in Spain, in the group of Nuria Flames. The project focuses on the evolution of the nervous system in C. elegans and other nematodes, with a research programme aimed at understanding the transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms involved in neuron-type specification, plasticity, and evolution.

The laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach that combines cellular biology, genomics, molecular genetics, behavioral assays, and bioinformatics. The work is carried out in murine and C. elegans animal models and is relevant to biology and health/disease research.

This is a full-time, temporary PhD position with a 4-year predoctoral contract starting on 1 January 2027. The lab notes that it is currently funded by the Spanish Government and the European Union through an ERC Consolidator Grant.

Eligibility highlights include a degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or another bioscience-related field obtained after 1 January 2022, an average grade higher than 8, and either a Master’s degree or enrollment in a Master’s programme during the 2026–2027 academic year. Additional merits considered include extra training, workshops, publications or congress contributions, bioinformatics knowledge, and English knowledge.

To apply, candidates should email a CV, degree qualification records, and a motivation letter to [email protected] before 14 November 2026.
