About this position

The Theoretical Ecology Lab at the University of Regensburg is seeking a PhD student to model insect populations using statistical models and deep learning. This position is part of the project "Bavarian Artificial Intelligence for Insect Monitoring" which investigates the effects of climate change on insect populations in Bavaria.

As a PhD student, you will develop and apply AI-based models to predict changes in insect populations, prepare scientific publications, and work within a structured graduate program (RIGeL). The lab offers an outstanding scientific infrastructure and a collegial working atmosphere in one of Germany's most popular cities.

Applicants should have a degree in a relevant field, experience in ecological issues, and programming skills. Knowledge in statistics and machine learning is advantageous. The position is part-time (65%) with a salary of TV-L E13, starting as soon as possible.
