The Chin Research Group at the Department of Functional Materials and Catalysis, Faculty of Chemistry, is recruiting for a University Assistant Predoctoral (PhD) position focused on MOF/COF/HOF materials, field-assisted growth and assembly, and functional structured films for sensing, energy conversion, photonics, and catalysis.
The project investigates how external fields such as electric, magnetic, or flow stimuli can control the growth, alignment, and assembly of framework materials. The research combines materials chemistry, surface science, and applied physics, with opportunities to study charge transport, optical response, and catalytic performance in anisotropic and multifunctional materials.
The successful candidate will synthesize and characterize porous framework materials and composites, use advanced fabrication, microscopy, and spectroscopy methods, and contribute to publications, conferences, teaching, and collaborative research. The position is embedded in the Vienna Doctoral School in Chemistry (DoSChem), a large doctoral training network with strong interdisciplinary support.
Eligibility highlights: Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field; strong background in inorganic or materials chemistry; experience in synthesis and characterization is required; English fluency is required and German is an advantage. A GPA of at least 3.5/4 or equivalent is expected.
Funding: This is a paid university employment position with a starting salary of EUR 3,776.10 (full-time equivalent), with possible increases for recognized experience. The contract runs for 3 years, with a preliminary limitation of 1.5 years and possible extension up to 4 years.

What's required
