About this position

Uppsala University is advertising a PhD student in Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory in Sweden. The project is centered on semi-solid electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries, with a strong focus on electrochemistry, battery materials, spectroscopy, microscopy, and structural characterization.

The successful candidate will work in the Structural Chemistry program and the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre, an environment focused on the development, characterization, and performance evaluation of novel electrode and electrolyte materials for energy storage. The research combines fundamental and applied work, including formulation of electrolytes, assembly and testing of battery devices, and analysis of chemical processes and properties using experimental and computational techniques.

Applicants should have a second-cycle degree in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, or materials science, or equivalent qualifications. The post also requires very good English, strong motivation, independence, teamwork skills, and prior knowledge/experience in electrochemistry and battery materials characterization. Experience with batteries, electrolytes, and/or polymers is considered an advantage.

What's required

Applicants must have a second-cycle degree in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, or materials science, or at least 240 higher-education credits including 60 credits at Master's level with an independent project worth at least 15 credits, or equivalent knowledge. Very good oral and written English is required. Candidates should be highly motivated, able to work independently and in a large team, and have knowledge and experience with electrochemistry and battery materials characterization. Experience in batteries, electrolytes, and/or polymers is desirable.
