About this position

The project focuses on optimization of electric vehicle charging and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) strategies. The successful candidate will develop and evaluate model-based charging strategies that combine battery models, battery ageing, real-world mobility profiles, electricity prices, photovoltaic generation, and grid requirements. Research topics include objective functions and technical constraints for V1G/V2G, model predictive control, multi-objective optimization, reinforcement learning, model reduction, uncertainty analysis, and comparison of battery lifetime, energy costs, CO₂ emissions, grid impact, and user needs.
Applicants should hold a university Master’s degree in electrical engineering, control engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, computational engineering, or a related field. Strong skills in mathematical optimization, control/energy-management methods, MATLAB, time-series analysis, and a basic understanding of battery systems, electric vehicles, energy systems, or power grids are expected. Very good English at least B2 level is required; German is optional but welcome.
The position is fixed-term for 3 years and paid at TVöD-Bund pay group 13 (75%), with year-end bonus and capital-forming benefits. The post also offers access to research infrastructure, international collaboration, conferences, flexible working arrangements, and doctoral support.
