About this position
PhD opportunity in pulmonary outcomes, lung function, respiratory disease, epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, and pediatric oncology at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM), University of Bern, in collaboration with the University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB).
The project investigates lung health in children and adolescents cured from cancer, using longitudinal follow-up across three university hospitals with pulmonary function tests, clinical assessments, and questionnaires. The role includes coordinating a prospective multicentre cohort study in Bern, Basel, and Geneva; working with study nurses, paediatric oncologists, and paediatric pulmonologists; collecting and integrating clinical, treatment, and pulmonary function data; applying epidemiology, data management, and statistical analysis skills; and presenting/publishing results.
Eligibility highlights: a university degree is required, ideally an MD in medicine, though physiotherapy or physiology backgrounds may also fit. The post seeks strong interest in respiratory disease, epidemiology, and paediatric oncology, ideally with clinical experience and experience in epidemiology/biostatistics or data analysis. Fluency in English and German and/or French is expected, ideally all three.
Funding: 3 years, 100% position with salary according to Swiss National Science Foundation scales. The PhD counts partially as medical training.
