About this position
PhD positions are available in Human-Centered Privacy and HCI at CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security in St. Ingbert, Germany, with work connected to Group Windl. The research sits at the intersection of human-computer interaction, privacy, usable privacy and security, and interactive systems.
The group studies how intelligent and sensor-rich environments can respect human values and evolve responsibly alongside users. Example topics include how people perceive and mitigate privacy risks in emerging technologies, how AI can support privacy decisions without taking control away from users, and how tangible interfaces can make privacy more visible and manageable.
The work is explicitly human-centered and combines empirical research with designing and building interactive systems. Methods may include interviews, surveys, laboratory or field studies, and prototyping with sensors, embedded hardware, IoT devices, augmented reality, robots, or other emerging technologies.
Applicants should have a Master’s degree in HCI, computer science, usable privacy and security, or a related field. A foundation in HCI and empirical methods is expected, and interest in privacy, emerging technologies, and collaborative interdisciplinary research is important. Experience with interactive prototyping and hardware is a plus.
The position is full-time and offers a competitive E13 salary under the German TVöD scale, plus health insurance coverage, 30 days of paid vacation, a pension scheme, language classes, research support, and funding for travel and equipment. English is sufficient; German is not required.
To apply, use the Apply Now button on the CISPA careers page and upload PDF documents through the application platform. Email applications are not accepted. The post does not state a deadline.
