About this position

PhD Research Fellow in Algorithms at the Department of Informatics, University of Bergen (UiB), Norway.

This PhD opening is part of the ERC Advanced project New Horizons of Parameterized Complexity (NewPC). The research focuses on algorithms, theoretical computer science, parameterized complexity, and multivariate algorithmic/complexity tools for optimization problems involving geometric and algebraic objects such as points, vectors, linear spaces, and matrices.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science/Informatics, or have submitted the master’s thesis before the deadline; the master’s degree must be awarded before employment. Strong background in algorithms and theoretical computer science is required. Publications in top TCS or AI venues are an advantage. Good English skills, independent work, structured working style, and collaborative ability are expected.

Funding and terms: fixed-term PhD research fellow position for 3 years, with a possible 4th year depending on qualifications and teaching needs. Salary is NOK 593,700 gross per year, plus pension and welfare benefits.
