This is a 100% PhD Research Fellow position in the Department of Information Systems, Faculty of Social Sciences, for three years, or four years with 25% other career-promoting work. The project invites applicants to propose research on the role of digital platforms and AI-based solutions in radicalization and recruitment to extremism, especially among young people.

Research themes may include how digital platforms shape the construction and circulation of radical content, how algorithms amplify or suppress such content, and how these dynamics can be regulated through policy and governance. The fellow is expected to collaborate with the new national centre against violent extremism (NIVE) in Kristiansand.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree of 120 ECTS credits in Information Systems or a closely related area, average grade B or higher, admission eligibility for the PhD Program in Social Sciences, a strong and original research proposal, strong analytical skills, and fluency in written and oral English. Master’s candidates graduating this year may apply if the thesis has been submitted by the deadline and the degree is approved within four weeks after the deadline.

Funding: salary is NOK 550,800 gross per year under the State Salary Scale, with possible higher salary grading for especially qualified applicants. The position also includes membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
