About this position
The University of Oslo’s Natural History Museum is offering a PhD Research Fellow position in Systematic Entomology (ref. 306760).
The project focuses on the systematics and ecology of selected groups within the fly family Cecidomyiidae, especially the large subfamily Cecidomyiinae. These insects include many gall formers on vascular plants, but also predators, fungivores, saprophages, and non-galling phytophages. Because many species are still undescribed in North Europe and ecological relationships are often poorly understood, the project offers an opportunity to contribute directly to biodiversity discovery and insect taxonomy.
The successful candidate will investigate ecological and phylogenetic relationships and carry out a taxonomic revision, including species descriptions. Research activities will include field work, lab rearing, bioinformatics using Next Generation Sequencing, and traditional morphological taxonomy. The project is therefore well suited to students with interests in insect systematics, evolutionary relationships, species delimitation, and integrative biodiversity research.
The position is a full-time temporary PhD opening based in Oslo, Norway, at the Natural History Museum, University of Oslo. The advertised research field is Biological sciences, and the required education level is Master Degree or equivalent. The deadline for applications is 30 September 2026 at 23:00 (Europe/Oslo).
Applicants should use the Jobbnorge application page provided in the vacancy notice. For more information, consult the full position description and the institutional contact details listed in the posting.
