About this position
DTU Electro is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD scholarship in Quantum Optical Measurements of Extreme Light-Matter Interaction within the QUEST Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network (Horizon Europe).
The project sits in the Photonic Nanotechnology group at the Technical University of Denmark and focuses on quantum optics, quantum electrodynamics, nanophotonics, and silicon nanotechnology. The successful candidate will investigate extreme light-matter interaction for emitters confined in deep-subwavelength cavities, perform spectral and time-resolved optical measurements, and study effects such as Purcell enhancement of silicon color centers in optical nanocavities. There is also interest in phonon dynamics and optomechanical applications.
The PhD is part of a larger European network of 15 doctoral candidates working across semiconductor materials, nanofabrication, quantum photonics, advanced characterization, and theoretical modelling. You will collaborate closely with researchers in theory, materials growth, and nanofabrication, and you will take part in training schools, workshops, PhD courses, and teaching assistant duties.
Location: DTU Electro in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark, with two secondments of at least three months each at Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria, and the University of Barcelona, Spain.
Eligibility highlights: a two-year master's degree (or equivalent) is required; strong backgrounds in experimental physics, electromagnetics, quantum optics, photonics, laser physics, and numerical techniques are preferred. Applicants should have an excellent academic record and must satisfy MSCA mobility rules (not more than 12 months in Denmark during the 36 months before recruitment).
Funding: MSCA-funded, fully funded doctoral position with salary, mobility allowance, family allowance where applicable, and pension. The stated minimum salary is DKK 30264.08 base salary plus DKK 1580.90 PhD supplement.
Deadline: 1 November 2026, 23:59 Danish time.
How to apply: Submit the online application via DTU’s Apply Now portal and upload one PDF in English containing a cover letter, CV, and transcripts plus BSc/MSc diploma with grading scale description.

What's required
Applicants must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS) or an equivalent degree at master's level. A strong background in experimental physics, electromagnetics, or quantum optics is preferred, especially in photonics, quantum optics, laser physics, and numerical techniques. Candidates should have an excellent academic record, ideally demonstrated scientific achievements, be highly motivated, reliable, self-driven, and communicate well in written and spoken English. Only candidates with a GPA in the very top are likely to be interviewed. Due to MSCA mobility rules, applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment.
How to apply
Submit the complete online application by the deadline through the Apply now link. Upload one PDF in English containing a cover letter, CV, and grade transcripts plus BSc/MSc diploma with grading scale description. You may apply before receiving the master's degree, but you cannot start before it is awarded.
