About this position
This PhD stipend at Aalborg University’s Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Computer Science, offers an exciting opportunity to develop machine learning methods for the analysis of IoT time-series data. The position is part of the Data Engineering, Science and Systems (DESS) research group, which is internationally recognized for its work in data-intensive systems, spatio-temporal data management, and data analytics. DESS is ranked among the top database systems groups globally, providing a world-class research environment and outstanding networking opportunities.
The project, titled 'An Integrated Approach to IoT Data Analytics,' aims to invent unobtrusive, deployable, and cost-efficient solutions for activity monitoring of older adults in their homes using wireless infrastructure data. The research will involve collaboration with medical experts to enable detection of vital signs, falls, and cognitive decline, contributing to digital health and intelligent transport applications. The PhD stipend focuses on inventing machine learning-based methods for data analysis in this setting, integrating expertise across the Departments of Electronic Systems and Computer Science.
The successful candidate will join the Data Section in the Department of Computer Science and be supported by a dedicated supervisory team led by Professor Christian S. Jensen. The position offers full employment benefits, including a competitive salary, in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state (AC collective agreement). The stipend is available for three years, starting August 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applicants must hold an MSc. degree in computer science and demonstrate solid mathematical and analytical skills, strong knowledge in time series machine learning, significant programming experience, and a collaborative mindset. Additional requirements include completion of PhD courses (30 ECTS), teaching or knowledge dissemination experience, and an external research stay outside Aalborg University (preferably 3-6 months). Application documents must include a CV, diplomas, and a one-page research vision statement.
The application process is managed via Aalborg University’s recruitment system. Shortlisting will be applied, and all applicants will be informed of their status. The university values diversity and encourages applications from all backgrounds. For further information, contact Professor Christian S. Jensen or Annemarie Davidsen.
