About this position
PhD opening in Bioinformatics at Stockholm University, within the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and the Elofsson group at SciLifeLab. The project is titled AI-driven Multiscale Modelling of Membrane Protein Complexes and focuses on developing deep-learning-based methods for modelling cell membranes and membrane protein complexes.
The research sits at the intersection of structural bioinformatics, machine learning, and membrane biology. The project aims to predict structures and interactions of membrane protein complexes in lipid environments, integrate experimental constraints from proteomics, glycoproteomics, structural mass spectrometry, and lipidomics, and scale predictions from individual complexes to whole-membrane organization. There is also potential connection to AI-based prediction of drug transport across membranes.
The work will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental groups in membrane biology and structural biology. The group has a strong track record in protein structure prediction, protein-protein interactions, and large complex modelling, and is embedded in SciLifeLab’s national biosciences environment.
Eligibility: applicants must meet Swedish doctoral admission requirements and the specific background requirements in chemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, computer science, mathematics, physics, or bioinformatics. Strong English, analytical ability, collaboration, creativity, initiative, and independence are emphasized.
Funding: this is a paid doctoral employment for up to four years, with a fixed salary. The appointment may include limited teaching/research/administrative duties.
Deadline: 2026-11-03. Apply via Stockholm University’s recruitment system and include a personal letter, CV, and all requested attachments.
