About this position
IMDEA Energy in Spain is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Electrochemical Processes Unit to join the regional MADBAT-CM consortium. The project focuses on high-throughput electrochemical characterization and interphase design in Si/graphite Li-ion batteries, with emphasis on battery-grade electrolyte formulation, SEI/CEI formation, and advanced screening methods.
The successful candidate will work on electrolyte systems for polymer-based redox cathodes and graphite/Si–graphite anodes, using Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM) and Scanning Droplet Cell (SDC) methodologies. The role includes electrolyte screening, quantitative interphase analysis, validation in coin and pouch cells, and development of data-analysis pipelines and standard operating procedures.
Additional work includes electrode fabrication, cell assembly, electrochemical testing, operando/in situ characterization (FTIR, XRD, Raman), and extraction of diffusion coefficients, charge-transfer kinetics, and transport numbers. The position also involves dissemination in journals and conferences, possible contributions to intellectual property and technology transfer, and mentoring of undergraduate and Master's students.
Eligibility highlights: PhD or equivalent in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Electrochemistry, or a related field; experience in electrolyte/additive design, high-throughput electrochemistry, battery cell assembly, operando techniques, EIS fitting, scientific writing, and strong English communication skills.
Funding: Full-time postdoctoral contract until 31 December 2028, with salary between €40,000 and €44,000 per year plus Spanish public health and social security benefits.
