PhD Student in Economics – Compensating Income Variation and Well-being University of Iceland in Iceland

The University of Iceland invites applications for a full-time PhD position in Economics, focusing on compensating income variation and subjective well-being. This two-year, funded position is based in the Department of Economics and is part of the ConCIV (Consortium on Compensating Income Variation) research team. The project investigates the economic value of education and retirement, using the compensating income variation (CIV) approach to assess their effects on the well-being of individuals and their families.

The research utilizes longitudinal data from the Australian HILDA survey and leverages natural experiments, such as changes in compulsory schooling laws and retirement age, to identify causal effects. The project builds on the ConCIV group's prior work in monetary valuation of non-market goods and is connected to international research collaborations. The successful candidate will be supervised by Professor Tinna Laufey Ásgeirsdóttir and will join a team of domestic and international experts.

Main responsibilities include participating in collaborative research activities, analyzing quantitative data, and disseminating findings through scientific articles, a doctoral dissertation (comprising at least three publishable papers), conference presentations, and public outreach. The position offers opportunities for engagement in national and international academic communities.

Applicants must have a Master's degree in economics or a related field, completed by the start date.
