About this position

The International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines (IMol PAS) in Warsaw, Poland is recruiting a PhD student for the newly established Goradia Lab led by Dr. Nishit Goradia. The project is part of the SONATA Bis-15 programme funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) and focuses on molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, quantitative fluorescence imaging, chromatin biology, transcriptional regulation, proteomics, and functional genomics.

The PhD researcher will study the molecular mechanism of CtBP corepressor activity inactivation by RAI2-induced CtBP polymerization. The work combines mammalian cell biology, molecular biology, quantitative microscopy, and biochemical approaches to understand how higher-order protein assemblies regulate gene expression and cell identity, with relevance to cancer biology. The student will develop an independent project within the broader programme, generate and characterize engineered mammalian cell models, investigate CtBP assemblies using advanced fluorescence microscopy, and examine how perturbation of polymerization affects transcriptional outputs.

Eligibility highlights: an MSc or equivalent in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, cell biology, cancer biology, or a related life science discipline; strong practical experience with standard molecular biology techniques; excellent English; strong motivation and ability to work independently and in a collaborative interdisciplinary team. Experience with CRISPR/Cas9, confocal microscopy, quantitative image analysis, protein biochemistry, and transcriptomic/proteomic methods is desirable.

Funding and conditions: full-time employment for up to 48 months with a salary of about 6,300 PLN gross/month. The package also includes medical coverage, social benefits, 36 days of paid holiday per year, and access to state-of-the-art facilities for imaging, proteomics, genomics, and computational biology. The successful candidate may also collaborate with experts at the EMBL Imaging Centre and the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.
