About this position
The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland is advertising a PhD Student in Real-Space Quantum Geometry for the Laboratory for Multiscale Materials Experiments.
This project sits at the intersection of physics and materials science, with hands-on work on magnetic thin films, nanolithography, micromagnetic simulations, electron and X-ray imaging, and electronic transport. The successful candidate will grow and pattern magnetic thin films, analyze data, present at international conferences, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and collaborate with the team, including during beamtimes at large-scale facilities.
The position is a PhD at PSI with enrollment at ETH Zurich. The post is aimed at candidates with a Master’s degree in Physics, Material Science, or Electronics, strong interest in solid-state physics and experimental research, good English skills, and motivation to learn and work in a team. Experience with cleanroom fabrication, magnetic imaging, micromagnetic simulations, and Python is welcome but not required.
For questions, contact Dr Giacomo Sala at [email protected]. Applications must be submitted online by 15 November 2026 with a motivation letter, CV, and list of research activities/publications (if any).
