About this position
Postdoctoral position at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, within the NCN OPUS 30 project “Covalent organic frameworks exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence” led by Dr inż. Jakub Ostapko.
The project focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of a new class of self-assembled microcrystalline emitters based on covalent organic frameworks (COFs). The research aims to confine thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) inside the COF interior and to explore a through-space charge-transfer (TSCT) mechanism enabled by carefully engineered donor and acceptor units. A major goal is to build isoreticular D–A COF series with tunable electronic properties and spontaneous face-to-face alignment driven by self-assembly.
The successful candidate will work on organic synthesis, COF materials chemistry, structural analysis, photophysics, and numerical/computational modeling. Experimental work includes synthesis of molecular precursors, preparation of COFs, characterization by PXRD, SEM, Raman spectroscopy, solid-state NMR, absorption and emission spectroscopy, quantum-yield measurements, and related studies. The role also includes preparation of COF thin films, assembly and characterization of COF-based OLED devices, data interpretation, publication writing, and supervision of PhD students.
The position is full-time and funded by the NCN OPUS 30 project, with a gross salary of around 9650 PLN per month. The initial contract is for 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to a total of 48 months. The postdoc will join a multidisciplinary team and gain experience combining experimental chemistry, spectroscopy, device fabrication, and computational materials science.
Eligibility is limited to candidates with a PhD in chemistry or a related field, within the NCN time window, and with strong experience in synthetic organic chemistry, inert-atmosphere techniques, COF or self-assembled organic materials, and materials characterization. Fluency in English is required. Applications must be submitted by 16 October 2026 at 12:00 noon (Warsaw time) by email to [email protected], with the required subject line and documents.

What's required
PhD degree in chemistry or a related field, obtained in the year of employment or within 12 years before 1 January of the year of employment; the PhD must generally be awarded by an institution other than the employing institution, unless the candidate has completed a continuous and evidenced research fellowship of at least 9 months outside the host institution and outside the country of PhD award; at least 6 months of employment eligibility under the NCN rules; no simultaneous remuneration from other NCN direct-cost research projects; no employment remuneration from another employer, including outside Poland, while receiving the salary; no pension benefits or equivalent benefits in Poland or abroad. Required expertise includes synthetic organic chemistry, reactions under inert atmosphere, preparation and characterization of COFs or similar self-assembled organic materials, and broad knowledge of PXRD, Raman, IR spectroscopy, and photoluminescence. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required, along with strong motivation, creativity, and analytical thinking.
