About this position
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is seeking talented postdoctoral researchers for a project on MXene-based device development. The position sits within the Physical Science and Engineering Division and Material Science and Engineering area, and it is designed for researchers who want to bridge fundamental materials innovation with practical device engineering.
The research agenda focuses on next-generation MXene devices, including the design and synthesis of new MXene chemistries, advanced liquid-crystal-enabled alignment and orientation strategies, and construction of application-targeted devices with translational potential. The postdoc will lead independent research and help establish reproducible workflows spanning MXene synthesis and processing, assembly, device fabrication, and performance benchmarking.
Day-to-day work will involve rigorous materials–structure–property–device correlation using electrochemical and physical testing alongside advanced characterization. The role also includes maintaining strong lab safety and documentation standards, managing data carefully, reporting progress in a timely manner, publishing high-impact papers, presenting at conferences, contributing to proposals where appropriate, and mentoring students.
The compensation package is competitive and tax-free, and includes free on-campus housing, comprehensive health insurance, and 22 days of annual vacation, plus additional benefits. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Strong prior experience in MXene research and/or 2D materials is expected, ideally supported by peer-reviewed publications and hands-on expertise in at least one relevant area such as MXene synthesis and processing, colloids/liquid crystals and oriented assembly, MXene device fabrication and testing, or scalable environmental applications such as seawater-related systems.
Applicants should also be comfortable with materials characterization and performance evaluation methods such as SEM/TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman/FTIR, electrical conductivity measurements, and electrochemical testing as appropriate. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are emphasized. Applications must be submitted through PlutoEdu, and candidates are explicitly asked not to send CVs to the professor via email or LinkedIn. Only selected candidates will be contacted by email.
