Doctoral researcher in Building Services

LUT University is recruiting a doctoral researcher in Building Services within LUT Civil Engineering and the LUT School of Energy Systems in Lahti, Finland. The project focuses on high-performance, future-resilient, user-oriented sustainable buildings, with particular interest in combining reduced real-life building energy use with improved occupant satisfaction, safety, well-being, and efficient user activities. The doctoral researcher will work in the Building Services research group and contribute to research on real-life building usage or on-demand ventilation control in buildings or industrial processes. The role is research-intensive and doctoral in nature: the selected candidate will publish peer-reviewed articles, complete doctoral studies, present at conferences, and disseminate findings to academic and professional audiences. The position also includes occasional travel, teaching and teaching assistance at bachelor’s and master’s levels, and some project or research group administration. The post is based at LUT’s Lahti campus and follows a hybrid work model. The contract starts with a one-year term and may be extended by three years if progress is satisfactory during the first year. The role starts as soon as possible, preferably in November 2026, and includes a six-month trial period. Salary is set according to the Finnish university pay system for teaching and research staff (requirement level 2), with a starting salary of approximately EUR 3,100 per month depending on experience and qualifications. Strong academic writing skills, analytical and problem-solving ability, and motivation to contribute to scientific publications are important.
