About this position

IMT Mines Alès is offering a 24-month postdoctoral position in karst hydrogeology and AI within the CREER center and the HSM research unit. The post is part of the ECHO project, which aims to improve understanding of the eastern Corbières karst in the context of a possible railway tunnel project. The work is intended to support geological, hydrological, and hydrogeological assessment for decision-making on tunnel feasibility and alternative routes.

The postdoctoral researcher will work on identifying contributing zones to the Fons Estramar spring using the Knox method, then apply methods from previous theses to delineate zones of homogeneous behavior on the plateau. The results, together with supplementary measurements and field observations, will be used to model groundwater flow in the aquifers. The position combines karst hydrogeology, hydrological analysis, field investigation, and modeling, with a clear link to real-world infrastructure and environmental decision support.

Applicants should hold a PhD in hydrogeology, hydrology, or environmental modeling. Desired skills include modeling of karst hydrosystems, field methods for studying infiltration zones such as faults, teamwork and organization, and proficiency in scientific English. Experience with AI or machine learning is part of the post title and the scientific context, while the core scientific emphasis remains on karst hydrogeology and groundwater flow analysis.

The position is a fixed-term contract under public law open to civil servants and contract employees, with a gross annual salary of €35,400. IMT Mines Alès highlights its research environment, technological platforms, industry partnerships, and quality of life in Alès and the Cévennes region. The application deadline is 2026-08-06, with a selection committee expected in the second half of August and a desired start date of 2026-10-01.

Applicants are encouraged to consult the full job description and contact the listed scientific and administrative contacts before applying.
