About this position
The University of Bordeaux is recruiting a post-doctoral researcher in nanosciences within the Paul Pascal Research Center (CRPP), a joint CNRS–University of Bordeaux laboratory in Pessac, France. This interdisciplinary project is part of the LIGHT Major Research Program and is carried out in collaboration with the Center for Structural Biology (CBS) in Montpellier, which specializes in DNA-based nanotechnologies.
The research aims to develop a new fabrication route for nanoparticles bearing several distinct surface domains (“patches”) with controlled shape, orientation, and position. The long-term objective is to use these nanoparticles as building blocks for programmed self-assembly of aperiodic photonic structures with emergent optical properties.
The postdoctoral researcher will develop and characterize DNA-functionalized nanoparticles by combining nanoparticle surface functionalization with DNA origami approaches. Main activities include functionalizing nanoparticle surfaces with DNA strands, designing strategies to control surface features, implementing DNA origami-based encoding on nanoparticle surfaces, adapting origami nanostructures to functionalized nanoparticles, preparing and characterizing nanoparticles, studying morphology and organization at different scales, and performing transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterization. The role also includes contributing to the programmed self-assembly of patchy nanoparticles, exploring aperiodic structures, and participating in scientific dissemination through communications and international publications.
The project sits at the interface of colloidal nanoparticles, surface chemistry, DNA-based nanotechnologies, self-assembly, and materials science. It offers an international scientific environment and close collaboration between the CRPP team and CBS experts in DNA origami technology.
The position is hosted by the University of Bordeaux in Pessac, Gironde, France, near Bordeaux. It is a full-time temporary postdoctoral contract for 12 months, renewable. Gross monthly salary is stated as 2750€ to 3000€ according to the salary grid. The position is based in a restrictive zone laboratory, requiring an investigation before hiring that may take up to 8 weeks.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, physics, materials science, nanoscience, or a related field. Experience in synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles and/or DNA-based nanotechnologies is preferred. Candidates should be skilled experimentalists, autonomous and rigorous, interested in interdisciplinary research, proficient in nanoparticle synthesis and characterization or DNA nanotechnology, and ideally have experience preparing and characterizing DNA nanostructures such as origami. Experience with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is appreciated. Good communication skills, teamwork, and excellent English in an international scientific context are required.
