About this position
The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) in Melbourne, Australia is recruiting a Post-doctoral Systems Immunologist to join the Immunity Division (Mueller Laboratory) on a 2-year full-time contract.
The project focuses on the systems immunology of naturally acquired malaria immunity in Papua New Guinean children, using well-characterised longitudinal cohorts and severe malaria case-control samples. The work combines immunology, infectious diseases, global health, and data science to identify cellular, molecular, and systems-level correlates of protection against Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax.
Research methods include high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing, proteomics, ELISA, multiplex immunoassays, and multi-omics integration, alongside rigorous bioinformatic and statistical analysis in R and/or Python. The role also involves collaboration with PNG-based field and laboratory partners, support for a prospective immunome cohort study, mentoring junior researchers, and contributing to publications, conferences, and grant applications.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Systems Biology, Computational Biology, or a closely related field (awarded or near completion). Experience in human immunology and at least one high-dimensional platform is essential, as is strong quantitative and communication skill. Experience in malaria immunology, paediatric immunology, clinical cohorts, resource-limited settings, serology, B cell/antibody biology, and multi-omics frameworks is desirable.
The position offers a competitive salary, salary packaging, and superannuation benefits. Applications close on 2026-08-27. To apply, upload a CV, cover letter, and a document addressing the selection criteria in PDF format via the job application portal.
