Suggested positions

About this position

Postdoc (Assistant Professor) at the Biological and Chemical Research Centre, University of Warsaw, in Poland.

This full-time research position is part of the project “Carriage-Driven Evolutionary Mechanisms in Staphylococcus aureus”, led by Dr Marta Matuszewska, and focuses on the evolution, persistence, and spread of Staphylococcus aureus in human populations, with particular emphasis on antimicrobial resistance. The work uses large-scale whole-genome sequencing data from isolates collected from both asymptomatic carriers and disease cases.

The successful candidate will contribute to analyses of population structure, evolutionary dynamics, clonal success, and the genetic basis of antimicrobial resistance. The project combines comparative genomics, phylogenetics, microbiology, and bioinformatics, with additional experimental validation work such as mutagenesis, phenotypic assays, and competition experiments. Responsibilities also include developing and optimising analytical pipelines, integrating genomic and experimental data, mentoring MSc and PhD students, writing manuscripts, and presenting results at conferences.

The position is open for two posts and is offered on a temporary full-time contract for 36 months, with an expected start in September, October, or November 2026. The work location is the University of Warsaw’s Biological and Chemical Research Centre in Warsaw. The role is funded by the National Science Centre, Poland, under the SONATA 20 call; the remuneration is approximately PLN 8800 gross per month plus annual additional remuneration and years-of-service allowance.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in biological sciences with specialisation in bioinformatics, at least three years of relevant research experience, experience with servers or computing clusters, large dataset handling, and excellent written and spoken English. Candidates are also expected to have a scientific publication record, independence, teamwork skills, and willingness to further develop research competences.

Applications must be submitted by email to m.matuszewska10@uw.edu.pl with the subject line “Post-doc application”. Required documents include a short motivation letter, CV, proof of degree, publication list, reference contacts, and the specified declarations and data-processing statement. The deadline is 4 September 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Warsaw).
