About this position
Postdoctoral position at the Advanced Research Center for Nanolithography (ARCNL), Amsterdam Science Park, The Netherlands. This experiment-oriented postdoc sits at the interface of fundamental physics and industrial application within ARCNL’s Source Department and its EUV Plasma Processes group.
The project focuses on the generation of extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) light from plasma using a 2µm laser, with a broader goal of understanding how next-generation light sources for semiconductor nanolithography can become more efficient and more powerful. The research agenda is centered on atomic- and molecular-level plasma dynamics, including the emission of light and ions from laser-generated plasma, and the optimization of plasma conditions and laser technology for future EUV sources.
You would join an interdisciplinary team of PhD students and postdocs in a highly collaborative research environment. The position emphasizes designing and executing experiments, working with advanced laser technologies, and contributing to fundamental understanding relevant to industrial lithography applications. ARCNL highlights prior work in EUV plasma science, including studies on the quantum origins of EUV light, plasma expansion laws, tin droplet target behavior, and alternative EUV source concepts.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in (Applied) Physics is required or expected soon; experimental laser and/or plasma physics experience is an advantage; strong laboratory skills are important; Python programming is welcome; and strong English communication skills are required.
Funding and conditions: full-time appointment (40 hours/week) for up to 3 years, with a starting salary of €4,552 gross per month (scale 10, CAO-OI) plus employment benefits. ARCNL notes that the Dutch 30% tax ruling may apply to non-Dutch applicants, and support may be available for housing, visa applications, transport costs, and furnishing expenses.
Application: apply online and submit a CV plus a one-page motivation letter. The application deadline is not specified.
