About this position
KTH Royal Institute of Technology is advertising a postdoctoral position in bioCCUS within an Interreg Baltic EU project focused on developing value chains for bioCO2 and advancing negative-emission technologies in the Baltic region. The project aims to replace fossil carbon with bio-based carbon in selected industrial sectors, with KTH working closely with biogas producers and project partners across the region.
The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of processes for separation and upgrading of bioCO2. The role combines field measurements at biogas plants, laboratory experiments to estimate unknown model parameters, and theoretical in-silico process design calculations and cost estimation. It is a strong fit for candidates interested in the intersection of academic research, industrial application, and sustainable process technology deployment.
The position is based at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. It is a temporary full-time appointment for up to three years. The advert emphasizes collaboration with researchers, industrial partners, and stakeholders, making it especially relevant for applicants who want hands-on experience in applied research and industrial development within a sustainability-driven European project.
Eligibility and requirements: applicants must hold a doctoral degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Strong foundations in transport phenomena, separation processes, and reaction engineering are required, together with experience in process simulation, numerical modelling, or data-driven process analysis. The role also requires knowledge of inorganic chemistry and analytical methods for CO2 in solvents and gas phases, plus demonstrated experience in research, publication, and teaching/supervision. Excellent English communication is essential; Swedish is an advantage.
Application: applicants must apply in KTH’s recruitment system and submit a cover letter, CV, copies of diplomas and grades, translations where necessary, and contact details for two references. The deadline is 2026-09-12 at 23:59 local time. Contact for the post is Matthäus Bäbler at [email protected].

What's required
A doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in Chemical or Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline, is required and must be completed by the employment decision date. Applicants should have demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific research, including experimental work, data analysis, and publication in peer-reviewed journals, along with strong knowledge of chemical engineering fundamentals such as transport phenomena, separation processes, and reaction engineering. Experience with process simulation, numerical modelling, or data-driven process analysis is required, as well as good knowledge of inorganic chemistry and analytical methods for CO2 analysis in solvents and gas phases. Teaching and supervision experience for undergraduate and Master students is expected. Excellent written and oral English skills are required, and Swedish language skills are a plus. Preference is given to candidates who obtained their doctorate within the last three years, have experience in carbon capture and utilization process development, industrial research collaborations, project reporting for externally funded projects, and show curiosity, flexibility, teamwork, and awareness of diversity and gender equality.
